The Oblate Vase (G1718-21-835) is a mouth-blown amber glass vessel with a flattened, spherical shape. A tall pillar stem sits in a solid walnut base, lifting the glass so it catches the light. It suits anyone who wants one considered, sculptural piece rather than a cluster of small accessories. Fill it with stems, plant a small cutting or add a candle and use it as a lantern.
Key features
Mouth-blown glass: blown by master glassblowers into wooden moulds to form a sphere.
Hand-shaped form: the sphere is squashed by hand with wooden tools, so each piece has its own subtle character.
Flame-melted rim: the rim is finished by melting it with a flame.
FSC-certified walnut base: a warm wooden foundation with a tall pillar stem.
Versatile use: works as a vase, planter or lantern, or simply as a decorative object.
Care: handwash the glass in warm soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Wipe the wood with a damp cloth and leave to dry naturally.
Styling tips
Amber glass and walnut bring warmth to neutral rooms. Place the vase on a sideboard or console in a living room with cream, sand or taupe walls. On a dining table, add a few dried grasses or a single branch and keep it low enough for conversation. In the evening, a tea light inside turns it into a soft lantern for a majlis side table or bedroom shelf. Pair it with brass, linen and other natural woods, and give it space so the oblate silhouette can stand out.
