Styling tips
Black velvet looks its best against light walls. Try warm white, soft grey or greige paint to let the tufting stand out. Layer crisp white or ivory bedding, then add a throw in mustard, emerald or blush for colour.
Place the bed on the longest wall, centred, with matching bedside tables either side. Brass or gold lamps echo the nail-head trim. A large rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed softens the room and frames the flared legs.
In smaller Dubai or Sharjah apartments, keep other furniture slim and pale so the headboard remains the focal point.
